Mission

IECPC-Interdisciplinary Expressive Culture Performance Collaboration Accolade East Theatre, York University September 29th & 30th, 2006

The IECPC is a Toronto based student initiative that aims at bridging gaps between various disciplines of performance and cultural production, and underpinned by the approaches and tools of interculturalism and ethnography.

We seek to create an ongoing collaborative forum utilizing music, dance, the visual arts (e.g. sculpture), film, theatre and poetry. If the seeds for the idea for the development of such a forum began with a vision that wishes to bring about greater interaction between the disciplines, it was also animated about a belief in fostering greater awareness of the possibilities for students and faculty alike to find mutual interest engaging in current performance and scholarship of African music and dance.

The spirit of that vision was expressed through a core group of students (Isaac Akrong, Rita Boateng, Trevor Ford, Darcel Frederick) who founded the African Dance Ensemble (ADE – www.afridance.com), and which was formed to begin the instillation to encourage further mutual understanding and scholarship of African music and dance and the present day resources that can bridge the gap between theatre, poetry and dance. The long-term benefits of this collaboration will be to foster interdisciplinary collaborations that will reflect the various interrelationships between present day, cutting edge scholarship.

It is our belief that in establishing this annual forum the profile of both the York and the wider community can be heightened, providing an arena and conduit for various constituencies to participate both academically and informally with Fine Arts programs.
